Track work Saturday to affect LIRR’s Long Beach line

Posted

Buses will replace four trains early Saturday morning on the Long Island Rail Road’s Long Beach Branch between Long Beach and Valley Stream, according to a Metropolitan Transportation Authority travel alert. Those traveling via mass transit between Penn Station and Long Beach from 2:15 to 6 a.m. Saturday should except travel times of up to 33 minutes more than usual.

The MTA said scheduled track work on the Wreck Lead Bridge between Island Park and Long Beach prompted the change, and that about 400 of its customers would be affected.

Riders aboard the eastbound Long Beach trains departing Penn Station at 2:53 and 4:05 a.m. will have to disembark at Valley Stream, then transfer to buses which will make all normal train stops to Long Beach.

Penn Station-bound riders who normally take the trains scheduled to leave Long Beach at 3:53 and 5:06 a.m. will instead have to board buses up to 31 minutes earlier than usual. The buses will make all normal train stops between Long Beach and Valley Stream, where riders will resume their trip west by train.
