Posted

Two students from Central High School and one from South High School recently earned awards for their accomplishments in the field of science. SHS sophomore Chibugo Obichere and CHS senior Claude Parola were each presented with Awards of Excellence from the National Academy of Future Physicians and Medical Scientists, while CHS junior Nicholas Lohier received an Award of Excellence from the National Academy of Future Scientists and Technologists.

The three students were granted their respective distinctions as a result of their involvement in conferences, for which they were recommended based on merit, science grades and nominations from teachers.

Nicholas participated in the National Academy of Future Scientists and Technologists’ Congress of Future Science and Technology Leaders while Chibugo and Claude attended the National Academy of Future Physicians and Medical Scientists’ Congress of Future Medical Leaders. Both events were held in Massachusetts in late June and provided opportunities for students to hear presentations about the latest developments in scientists from prominent professionals.

Chibugo aspires to become a physician and expressed that this experience further solidified her interest in the medical field. She is a dedicated student, currently enrolled in challenging courses, including Advanced Placement Human Geography and AP World History. Claude, who plans to study neuroscience in the future, is taking AP Chemistry this year and has already completed AP Biology. While at the conference, he was also inducted into the National Society of High School Scholars. Nicholas hopes to eventually become a veterinarian or wildlife biologist and is taking AP Biology this year.
