Bulldogs continue striding toward greatness

Posted

As the colder weather begins to engulf the Hewlett and Woodmere communities, the Hewlett Bulldog sports teams refuse to let anything deter them in their quest for success.

Our fall athletes were hungry for wins. The varsity football team demolished their opponents during Homecoming Weekend and the girls’ varsity volleyball team were named conference champions, losing once throughout the entirety of their season.

The most anticipated event of the year is Hewlett’s Fall Dance hosted by the Leaders Club, which took place Nov. 6. This night’s sole purpose is to have an amazing autumn bash for the life skills community filled with dancing to a live DJ, pizza, and mingling with Hewlett’s leaders.

The teacher adviser, Abby Samlin, reports that this night was a “…great success! Not only was this night awesome for the life skills kids, but for the Leaders community as well. Hewlett High School’s faculty and students pulled together and put on a great night.”

More than 100 people attended the dance, and over the course of the four years that this dance has taken place, the numbers keep growing. This year, life skill students from four districts came to party: Hewlett, Lynbrook, Baldwin and Massapequa.

This year’s turnout was fantastic, and Hewlett wants to encourage more school districts to participate in this wonderful dance. This experience is extremely powerful for all who participate; this was Zoe Superville’s first time attending the dance: “This dance was an incredible experience,!” she said. “Filled with tons of fun and inspiration, this dance was one for the books.”

Show time!
Lights, camera, action. Hewlett’s rendition of “Annie Get Your Gun” premiered this week. Four shows: Wednesday, Nov. 15 at 4:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 17 at 7 p.m., and two shows Saturday, Nov. 18 at 2 and 7 p.m.

The student musicians have spent endless hours rehearsing to ensure that this performance is astonishing. This musical has a live pit orchestra filled with more than 25 student musicians who have been preparing an impressive score since July. With the pit accompaniment and the tremendous acting and singing skills of the cast, this musical will undoubtedly be a smashing success.

With all these events, unique to Hewlett, taking place, many seniors are finally realizing what little time left they have in high school. Within the last two weeks, many colleges have returned admittance decisions to Hewlett students. Seniors have received good news from the University of Pittsburgh, Hofstra University and other great schools.

Hewlett Bulldogs are continuing their strides towards greatness and nothing will stand in their way.
