Crown Gastropub to host golf tournament for Irma victims

Crown Gastropub in Bellmore will be holding an Inaugural Golf Tournament on Oct. 30 at 9 a.m. at the Golf Club at Middle Bay in Oceanside. Tickets are $150 per person and all proceeds will benefit the American Red Cross and its Hurricane Irma Relief efforts.

In the days proceeding Hurricane Irma’s initial hit to the southern Florida region, Manager Kristen O’Brien recalled speaking with customers who had family or friends living in the devastated areas. A number, she added, evacuated the state to stay with family on Long Island.

“Seeing the distressed looks on their faces, we knew we wanted to do something,” O’Brien said.

On Oct. 11, the American Red Cross reported that it had distributed over one million relief items across six states, including diapers, bug spray, cleaning supplies, coolers, and comfort kits containing deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, according to its website. In addition, 850 Red Cross members were actively aiding areas affected by the hurricane.

Crown Gastropub opened last year and is run by longtime restaurateur Gerry McClorey, who hand-built the interior with an oak floor transported from the gymnasium of an old New York schoolhouse, tables made from reclaimed wood and a mural of Eagan’s family dairy farm that was painted by his daughter.

Admission to the Inaugural Golf Tournament includes prizes, an early dinner buffet and drinks at the restaurant and a charity auction. For more information, email chef Tim Eagen at tchef16@gmail.com.
