The Long Beach Police and Fire Departments rushed to the scene of a collision at East Elementary School on Sunday at around 8 a.m.

Fire officials said that the driver of the vehicle — a man in his 60s — drove through a fence and into the playground of the school, damaging some playground equipment.

The driver is believed to have suffered a medical emergency, Fire Commissioner Scott Kemins said, which caused the collision.

The driver was transported to South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside with minor injuries, he said.

No other injuries were reported. Despite rumors on social media, fire officials said that the collision was not associated with the Irish Day festival on Saturday.
