Long Beach firefighters extricated a woman in an overturned car at around 1:30 p.m. on Friday after the driver collided with another vehicle and was pinned upside down at the intersection of Long Beach Boulevard and East Hudson Street.

“We used two Hurst Jaws of Life tools to gain access to the patient to be able to get her out,” Fire Commissioner Scott Kemins said. “We took the whole door off the car.”

A Nassau County Police Department ambulance transported the woman to South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside in stable condition, he added. No one else was in the car with her.

The driver of the other car refused medical attention. Kemins said the cause of the crash was unknown.

Firefighters, as well as Long Beach and county police, were on the scene for about 45 minutes.
