Until recently, a sudden trauma to a bone, joint or muscle meant unnecessary hours of waiting in an emergency room, and a temporary fix until seeing your orthopedist. Specialists at the Central Orthopedic Group saw the need for a viable alternative, and recently launched OrthoCare ASAP inside their new 10,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility in Massapequa.
OrthoCare ASAP lets you walk in for immediate care, seven days a week, and be treated by trauma-trained orthopedic and physician assistant specialists. While they are equipped to give emergency care, experts at OrthoCare ASAP can also take steps not provided at ERs or standard unspecialized walk-in clinics. Using ultrasound guidance, cortisone injections can be administered, as well as ultrasound-guided joint aspirations (to remove fluid from an arthritic joint), and joint fracture reductions. They can address sudden traumatic injuries as well as chronic pain due to long time overuse.
Treated are bone, muscle and joint injuries from head to toe, such as lacerations, dislocations, pulled hamstrings, whiplash, strains, sprains, sciatica, plantar fasciitis and fractures. Athletes can minimize their time away from their game. Exercise injuries, such as pulled muscles or joint pain, can be treated right away. Short and long-term treatment is provided for on-the-job injuries. And the elderly can be helped to recover from a fall.
Digital X-rays are available at the Massapequa site. They treat all ages, from toddlers to the elderly. OrthoCare ASAP hours are Monday through Friday, from 4 to 10 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. On weekdays before 4 p.m., appointments can be made with a physician at Central Orthopedic Group in the same building. Most insurance plans are accepted.
Central Orthopedic Group has two other locations — 77 N. Central Ave. in Rockville Centre, and 651 Old Country Rd. in Plainview. Locations can be contacted at (516) 681-8822. Their Plainview location (which has existed for nearly 30 years) houses MRI and other state-of-the-art equipment and a pain management hub with physical therapy.
Central Orthopedic Group is comprised of more than a dozen orthopedic physicians with different specialties (knee, hip, hand/wrist, foot, shoulder and spine, etc.) with treatments that range from arthroscopic surgery to joint replacement. Doctors are affiliated with a wide variety of hospitals, and several are Chairman of Orthopedics at South Nassau Community, St. Joseph, and North Shore LIJ at Plainview Hospitals. More specific information, including physician bios, is available at www.centralorthopedicgroup.com.
