L.B. sanitation worker arrested for allegedly stabbing co-worker

Joseph Coleman, a City of Long Beach sanitation employee, was arrested on Dec. 10 for stabbing his co-worker with a hunting knife, according to Long Beach Police.

Coleman, 25, arrived at work at the Long Beach Sanitation Department at 7 a.m. on Tuesday and confronted another employee before pulling a large hunting knife from his waistband and stabbing the victim in the chest, LBPD said in a press release. Coleman fled the scene, while the victim laid on the floor bleeding. Other sanitation and beach maintenance employees quickly rushed over and put pressure on the victim's wound. The victim was rushed to Mount Sinai South Nassau Emergency Room in Long Beach in very serious condition.

He was later transferred to another facility and is now listed in stable condition.

Coleman was arrested that later that day at 6:20 p.m. and charged with second-degree attempted murder and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He was arraigned on Dec. 11 at Long Beach City Court and remanded to the custody of the Nassau County Sheriff by Judge Miller. Coleman is due in Nassau County Court before Judge Robert Bogle on Dec. 16.
