Long Beach police responded to a 911 call on Thursday reporting a gunshot fired in the area of West Hudson Street and National Boulevard.

Officers rushed to the scene at 1:09 p.m. and discovered a shell casing on the street, in front of 102 W. Hudson St., an apartment building, police said.

“There were no reports of anyone being struck or injured at this time,” said LBPD spokesman Sgt. Brett Curtis. “Upon arrival, officers discovered a shell casing. The Long Beach Detective Division is still conducting the investigation.”

A Nassau County Police Department crime scene unit also responded to the scene. The gunshot was not detected by the city’s ShotSpotter system, and police dismissed rumors circulating on social media that a body was found at the scene.
