Police arrested a man in Island Park early Monday and charged him with attempted murder after he reportedly tried to grab an officer’s gun.

According to police, the officer encountered Nick Rastetter, 33, at 12:57 a.m. after responding to a 911 call regarding a suspicious person at Waterfront Boulevard. The officer saw Rastetter, who matched the suspect’s description, walking near Long Beach Boulevard and East Fulton Street, and attempted to speak to him.

Rastetter became combative and reached for the officer’s gun, police said. After a brief struggle, a second officer arrived to assist, and the two placed Rastetter under arrest. The first officer was treated at a nearby hospital for an injury to his hand.

Rastetter was charged with first-degree attempted murder, second-degree attempted robbery, resisting arrest and second-degree obstructing governmental administration.
