Six cars collide on Loop Parkway

The Point Lookout-Lido Fire Department responded to a six-car collision on the Loop Parkway around 5:22 p.m. on Wednesday.

According to Point Lookout-Lido Fire Department Chief Jared Siegelman, five people were treated at the scene and refused transportation to the hospital. No serious injuries were reported. One person was transported by a Fire Department ambulance to Nassau University Medical Center in stable condition, with neck and back pain, Siegelman said.

The Long Beach Fire Department sent an ambulance to assist, Long Beach Fire Chief Rich DiGiacomo said.

“The cars were heading northbound towards the Meadowbrook Parkway when they reached a one-lane intersection and [one car] stomped on their brake, which created a chain reaction,” Siegelman said. “We’ve been getting a lot of accidents on the Loop Parkway lately.”

“The fog and lack of visibility could have played a part in the collision,” DiGiacomo said.

The Point Lookout-Lido Fire Department was on the scene within two minutes of the crash; a firefighter happened to be close to the collision when it occurred, Siegelman said. The responders had to take into account the timing of the bridge lift and traffic on the parkway, and placed separate firefighters on the corner of Lido Boulevard and the Loop Parkway in case of any other emergencies, Siegelman said.

“The operation was complete within an hour,” Siegelman said.
