A Q&A with new Lynbrook Chamber of Commerce President Carol Burak

Posted

Carol Burak was sworn in as the new Lynbrook Chamber of Commerce president on Jan. 10. Burak has been a member of the chamber for 24 years and previously served in the role of secretary.
The Herald recently spoke with Burak and conducted a question and answer session with the new chamber president.

What are your goals and objectives for your term as president?

The primary focus for this next year will be to grow our membership and to provide networking events which will encourage new members to join and become part of the chamber family. While we have a good number of members, we also encourage residents to join as associates, which will give them an opportunity to learn more about the chamber and what it represents to the community.

What was your reaction to becoming Chamber president?

I must tell you that I was very apprehensive when nominated for this position of president of the Lynbrook chamber. There are so many more members who qualify for the position. However, I hope to do the best possible job as the months go by. I have been a member of the chamber for 24 years. In my role as secretary in the past, you become privy to the workings of the chamber and over the years, it has been an important asset to be working with so many presidents.

Have you received any advice from former Chamber presidents?

The former presidents, as well as the members of the chamber, have been very supportive of me and I know I will be asking them for their advice over these next few months.

What upcoming events for this year are you most excited about?

The fact that the chamber has a number of fundraisers during the course of the year allows us to focus on giving back to the community in the form of scholarships for the Lynbrook graduates, supporting Patriots’ Day, providing support for the outreach programs sponsored by the local churches and many more events which the village sponsors. It is also important to be able to work together with the mayor and village officials as we form a better understanding of municipal government.
