A newly-minted doctor

Erik Romanelli, son of Lisa and Frank Romanelli of Hewlett, graduated with honors from Tulane University School of Medicine on Saturday, May 18, Romanelli is a 2004 graduate of Lynbrook Senior High School and a 2008 graduate of Washington University in St. Louis, where he double-majored in Biology and Anthropology. While pursuing his medical degree, he concurrently obtained a Masters of Public Health degree with a concentration in Health Systems Management from the Tulane University School of Public Health & Tropical Medicine. In addition, he served as president of his medical school class for the entirety of his matriculation at Tulane.  

At commencement, Romanelli was awarded the Richard W. Freeman Prize for outstanding leadership and overall contribution to the school and university and the prestigious Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award presented by the Arnold P. Gold Foundation recognizing the medical student who best demonstrates the foundation’s ideals of outstanding compassion in the delivery of care, respect for patients, their families and health care colleagues, as well as demonstrated clinical excellence.  

The newly-minted physician will next head to Einstein/Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx for residency in Anesthesiology, along with his fiancée, Dr. Kayleen Bailey of Baltimore, MD, who will be specializing in Pediatrics.
