A rash of car break-ins in Lynbrook

Volkswagens targeted in many of the incidents

A rash of larcenies to vehicles parked in Lynbrook have occurred, with eight such reported incidents from June 23 to 30, according to police.

Four of the incidents involve Volkswagens, including the theft of 12 tires and rims from Sunrise Volkswagen, located at 631 Sunrise Highway. The service manager of the business told police that the incident occurred some time between 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 25 at and 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 26. The fence around the storage area was damaged. The total amount of the loss was $6,908.

A 2013 Volkswagen that was rented from Avis Rent a Car had its wheel covers removed while parked along Sunrise Highway, a complainant reported at 8:40 a.m. on June 23. The value of the covers is $200.

Forty minutes later another person reported that their 2010 Volkswagen, which was parked in their driveway on Huntington Avenue also had its wheel covers removed. The wheel covers were valued at $400.

Approximately 24 hours after these incidents, a person reported that their $700 Apple laptop was removed from their 2013 Volkswagen, which was left unlocked in the person’s driveway on Spencer Avenue.

Other cars have been targeted as well. On June 24 at 7:15 p.m. a person reported that their pocketbook containing three credit cards, three debit cards, three check books and $50 was removed from their 2009 Jeep that was parked in the private parking area of 5 Corners Fitness located at 230 Hempstead Ave.

It was also reported on June 27 at 8:30 a.m. that a Canterbury Gate resident reported that their AT&T iPhone and electronic key fob, a $750 loss, was removed from their unlocked 2014 Nissan, which was parked in the resident’s driveway.

On June 28 at 7:30 p.m. a person who parked at Greis Park reported that an unknown person broke the passenger-side window of their 2008 Toyota and stole the complainant’s backpack that contained their NYS driver’s license and credit cards. The total amount of damage and loss is $150.

A Lenox Avenue resident reported that their iPhone and two wallets were removed from their 2013 Mazda that was parked in their driveway at 7 p.m. on June 30. The amount of the loss is $340.
