Woman sentenced for falsifying records

A woman who pleaded guilty to falsifying business records at groups homes located in Lynbrook and East Rockaway was sentenced to a conditional discharge and restitution of $9,917 on Monday.
Denessa Yearwood, 38, of Springfield Gardens was sentenced by Nassau County District Court Judge Erica Prager for falsifying documents related to her work as a resident manager for two local group homes for the developmentally disabled. Yearwood entered her guilty plea to first-degree falsifying business records last May after she was arrested by district attorney investigators in June 2012.
Yearwood was arrested for altering or re-using existing receipts for resident expenses in the ledgers of group homes located in Lynbrook and East Rockaway. The theft was discovered during a routine audit of the homes’ books in May 2011 by a compliance analyst with Adults and Children with Learning and Developmental Disabilities, Inc., a nonprofit that provides services to more 3,000 developmentally disabled children and adults in Nassau and Suffolk counties. Yearwood was terminated in June 2011.

Assistant District Attorney Victoria Curran of District Attorney Kathleen Rice’s Government & Consumer Frauds Bureau is prosecuting the case. Yearwood is represented by the Legal Aid Society of Nassau County.
