Long Island Marathon: An amazing race

Posted

The Long Island Marathon was held on Saturday May 3. I ran in the 5K, and it was great to be around the other 600 participants.

But before all the races started on Friday, I had to go to a sports Expo in Uniondale to see what they were showing to the participants of the marathon. I also got my number for all the events that I was registered for. They also handed out free samples such as water bottles, cupcakes and protein bars. The Expo also had lots of booths where you can learn about the different companies that were sponsoring the race.

On the morning of the race — which was sponsored by Newsday, McDonalds Snapple, Walk 97.5 and RXR — I had to go back to Uniondale and prepare for the 5K. I was with seven coworkers of mine, and we had all trained every day for this race. Personally, I trained once a week at the gym by walking and running on the treadmill.

All participants received medals upon completion of the race. I came in 546th place and my time was 54 minutes and 17 seconds. The next day, all participants name was in Newsday for the times and races.

It was an amazing race and it was fun. I look forward to doing it next year.
