Pocketbooks, police officers and pickles? What do these things have in common? They were all at the 25th annual Lynbrook Expo.

The Lynbrook community came together in Greis Park for the Expo last Saturday. The crisp, cool weather and bright sky set the perfect backdrop as local merchants promoted their businesses, while families enjoyed the final days of summer.

The Expo also provided attendees with important safety and security information, thanks to local emergency response and law enforcement.

The Lynbrook Fire Department was there to give fire safety tips, while the Lynbrook Police Department gave residents a safe place to dispose of old pills and pill bottles. Lynbrook Police Officer Jaycee Indiviglio said that the force has been doing this for the past ten years to “make sure drugs do not get into the wrong peoples hands, and to make sure everyone knows not to flush them down the toilet — but be safe with them.”

Meanwhile, children rushing to get their face painted, and watching in awe as the Spirit of Long Island Mounted Drill Team performed, and a helicopter touched down nearby. Large bouncy houses and other amusements also dotted the park, each with long lines of excited children.

Carmen Cafasso, a mother who brought her family to the Expo, said that she would definitely come back next year. “The Expo is great!” she exclaimed.
