“After the crazy season of election time is over, we build a bridge to a government that serves all of the people,” she said. “Rather than stand on separate sides of the bridge, we cross that bridge together.”

The newest member of the town government is Ahmad, who was elected clerk for the first time in November, after she was appointed to the post earlier in the year. U.S Rep. Peter King, who said she personifies the American dream as an immigrant in public office, swore Ahmad into office.

The inauguration also featured several musical performances, including a rendition of Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the USA” by “American Idol” finalist and Merrick resident Robbie Rosen. Alyssa Pallotta, of East Meadow, sang the national anthem.
