On Stage

Hair
The sun is still shining on Hair, now being presented by Nassau Community College’s Department of Theatre and Dance. The hippie musical, which put rock music and the culture that went with it on stage, still resonates today. With a score including enduring musical numbers like “Let the Sun Shine In,” “Aquarius,” “Hair,” and “Good Morning Starshine,” Hair depicts the birth of a cultural movement in the ‘60s as told by East Village hippies who celebrate peace and love in the shadow of the Vietnam War. It’s old-school ‘60s-style grooviness that Millenials as well as baby boomers can enjoy.
Friday and Saturday, April 29-30, 8 p.m.; Sunday, May 1, 2 p.m.; also Wednesday through Saturday, May 4-7, 8 p.m. and Sunday, May 8, 2 p.m. $18, $12 seniors. Nassau Community College’s Mainstage Theatre, 1 Education Dr., Garden City. (516) 572-7676.

Camelot
Chris and Kim Dufrenoy, Long Island’s popular acting couple and a fixture on the regional theater scene, star in Plaza Theatrical Productions’ version of the iconic musical. This beloved Tony Award-winning musical takes us back to the age of chivalry and the tumultuous love triangle between King Arthur, Queen Guinevere, and Sir Lancelot. A doomed romance, a yearning for a once and future better world, and magical music define a show for the ages and the entire family. The fabulous score includes “If Ever I Would Leave You,” “I Loved You Once in Silence,” “The Lusty Month of May,” “How to Handle a Woman,” and of course, “Camelot.”
Sunday, May 1, 2 p.m. $28, $20 seniors. The Showplace at the Bellmore Movies, 222 Pettit Ave., Bellmore. (516) 599-6870 or www.plazatheatrical.com.
