To the Editor:
I applaud Senator Martin’s decision to redirect funds away from the Elmont Public Library to an entity who will benefit greatly by the gift and who would not have the funds available without Senator Martin’s act of common sense.
The Elmont Library has long sat on a reservoir of tax payer dollars. As of their most recent P&L, which they force you to F.O.I.L. rather than freely distribute as they should, the amount was $1.79mm on a budget of slightly less than $3mm. That’s a reserve fund of 59% of their budget. They do not need the State’s grant money as they already have a huge stockpile of ours.
Thank you Senator Martins for being the person to finally see this.
