Doughology’s ‘doughnut drop’ a success in Suffolk County

Doughology owners Chris and Jackie Stiansen realized they had a customer base in Suffolk County and decided to bring their doughnuts to consumers there in September — via what they term a “doughnut drop.”

“I first came up with the idea because I know people like the idea of convenience, and won’t drive an hour and a half for doughnuts,” said Chris, whose store is on Atlantic Avenue in Lynbrook. “So, I figured, why not bring the doughnuts to the people?”

Their first drop was on Sept. 17 at the Islip Grange Park, where they sold more than 1,000 custom doughnuts. After that, Chris also did drops in Northport, where he sold about 660 doughnuts, and returned to Sayville on Nov. 4, where he sold about 110.

“The numbers have been great,” Chris said. “It’s worked out very well.”

Some who purchased the doughnuts posted on Doughology’s Facebook page that they were happy with their experience. “My kids loved their rainbow doughnuts!!” Cindy Dellysse wrote on Nov. 5 “Thanks for coming to Sayville!!”

Another Suffolk resident, Nicole M. Rucci Ruocco, also wrote that her family enjoyed the doughnuts. “The doughnuts were delicious,” she posted on Nov. 6. “Everybody loved them!!”

Chris is now considering expanding his business to Suffolk, and said he has ideas to start making doughnut drops outside of Long Island. “We do have plans in the future to do all five boroughs and Westchester County as well,” he said.

Anyone can suggest a location of a municipality or parking lot that would be closed on the weekends for a future doughnut drop on Doughology’s Facebook page. Those who would like to order doughnuts for a future drop are encouraged to call the shop by 9 p.m. on the Friday before the drop, at (516) 341-0882. Doughology charges $4 for handling and delivery.
