Golic and Wingo to broadcast from The Greene Turtle

The Golic and Wingo national morning television and radio show will broadcast an episode live from The Greene Turtle Sports Bar and Grille in East Meadow on Sept. 20 from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. Mike Golic and Trey Wingo are coming to the East Meadow location as the second of five stops on their 2019 Fall Football Tour.

“We’re super excited about it,” said Brooks Walter, the director of marketing at The Greene Turtle. “Any chance you could get to work with ESPN, which has been such a great part of the Greene Turtle Brand and story, is an awesome opportunity.”

Just ahead of the weekend’s New York Jets vs. New England Patriots game, fans could expect to see the ESPN personalities banter about the prospects for the game and other upcoming college football and NFL matchups in addition to discussing the latest news and headlines of the day.

“It’s a perfect fit for us,” said Jeff Froccaro, the owner of The Greene Turtle’s Long Island locations. He and his brother have been in restaurant business for roughly 40 years and also own 36 Burger King restaurants and Qodoba in East Meadow. They brought The Greene Turtle to Long Island because their children play lacrosse and they knew the franchise as being tied to athletics.

Greene Turtle opened in East Meadow at 1740 Hempstead Turnpike in September 2015. The franchise also has a location in Franklin Square, at 700 Hempstead Turnpike, in addition to more than 40 locations from Virginia to New York.

Through those locations and various markets, they have connections with sports at every level of play, from little league to professional leagues, and are always exploring ways to connect with the athletic world, Walter explained.

“We think we are a perfect spot for [Golic and Wingo] to come to,” Walter said. “We certainly pride ourselves on having that local bar and feel once you’re inside the restaurant. The Greene Turtle is a destination to watch pretty much any sporting event that you could imagine.”

The show will be broadcasting from the dining room, so guests will have a chance to ask questions, live, or appear in the background of the episode. Doors open at 5 a.m. and seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. The show could be viewed on ESPN 2 or ESPN Radio.

The first 200 guests will receive a free Greene Turtle shirt and entrée card. Admission is free and fans can enjoy a $20 breakfast buffet and bar beverages. Jets fans will get a chance to greet some of the team’s alumni and cheerleaders and grab free giveaways.
