Island Park residents celebrated Library Day last Saturday, an annual tradition that featured live music and activities for the village’s families.

The event kicked off with a flag ceremony by the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts, and later featured arts and crafts, as well as two performances by the Hot Jazz Jumpers. Visitors were also invited to visit the library’s incubator, where chicks are getting ready to hatch.

Library Board Vice President Joe Pontecorvo said more than 200 people turned out to enjoy the library’s services.

Jessica Koenig, the facility’s director, along with trustees Michael Schnall, Dean Bacigalupo and Thomas McCreight mingled with the families. He added that the event brought together other groups in the community, including Island Park’s Kiwanis Club, the Chamber of Commerce, the school district and civic association, who were all involved.

“We do it every year to enlighten all the residents of all the programs that we have,” Pontecorvo said. “I think it’s a great venue — just like the village or the school tries to get the public out —to show that we’re there, we’re alive and we’re moving upward.
