Michael Venditto for the 8th S.D.

Posted

The Herald endorses Michael Venditto, Republican senator from Massapequa, for the 8th Senate District seat. A lifelong resident of the South Shore, Venditto was first elected to the State Senate in 2014.

By working in a collaborative, bipartisan manner, Venditto said he hopes to give all New Yorkers the opportunity to succeed. He served as chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Consumer Protection for the 2015 and 2016 sessions, as well as several other committees, including Codes, Crime Victims, Crime and Correction, Higher Education and Insurance.

He has already taken strides to curb the use of opiates on Long Island by providing Narcan training and drug education services in schools, and with much more work needed to be done, Venditto said he hopes to build on those successes and work to pass further legislation to stem the tide of drug abuse on the Island.

Venditto said he’s working hard to secure more state funding for education, and he supports reform of the Common Core State Standards. He notes that his wife is a teacher.

At the same time, his experience as a former Nassau County legislator makes him knowledgeable about local issues. His dedication, energy, and familiarity with the community make him an exceptional candidate.

While his opponent John Brooks is passionate, dedicated and knowledgeable about certain issues, his knowledge base is a bit too narrow for someone aiming for the State Senate.

We encourage people on Election Day to vote for Michael Venditto.
