The Malverne Little League hosted its Opening Day Ceremony on April 12 at Harris Field, welcoming sluggers and spectators alike to celebrate baseball while recognizing some of its major players both on and off the diamond.

At the ceremony, Malverne Little League President Joe Ariola honored Paul Jessup, superintendent of the village’s department of public works, for his dedicated service to the league, especially in building its new concession stand.

Little Leaguer Gavin Huertas threw the first pitch at Saturday’s ceremony in memory of his older brother and fellow player Alex, who passed away last September.
