Ex-Chief Amedeo DePoto is mourned

A firefighter with the Malverne Fire Department since 1967, rising to the rank of chief, Amedeo DePoto, 90, died on June 19.

DePoto was honored by his fellow firefighters as Firefighter of the Year not once but five times.

He had served as president of the Executive Council of Firematic Organizations Association of Nassau County, and also served in the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York and South Shore Volunteer Fire Departments Association.

DePoto is survived by his wife, Marguerite, and family. A service was held on Sunday at the Malverne Fire Department headquarters. A Mass took place at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Malverne. He was interred at Holy Rood Cemetery in Westbury.
