A “down-home,” high powered, foot stompin’ style of music born from early Louisiana Creole with influences in the blues, R&B and even hip hop, Zydeco has become synonymous with fast tempo, fun times and Buckwheat Zydeco continues to demonstrate his special flair with this Creole sound.
Concertgoers can also see vintage automobiles on display from several area car clubs, as part of the festivities. Along with the classic cars, an array of military vehicles and armored equipment from the 2nd Marines 25th Battalion of Garden City will be exhibited.

Fireworks at Valley Stream’s Fireman’s Field
Watching the fireworks display at Fireman’s Field in Valley Stream is a summer tradition for many south shore residents. The holiday fun continues on Thursday, July 4, when Valley Stream Chamber of Commerce and the Incorporated Village of Valley Stream host the annual Fourth of July Fireworks Show. The rain date is July 5.
This event remains one of the largest fireworks displays in the area, according to Valley Stream Chamber of Commerce officials, with over 25,000 people attending yearly. Visitors will be treated to a glorious display of pyrotechnics, with a concert by Uppercut before the light show, along with children’s activities.
Uppercut, a nine-piece, high-energy funk, rock and R&B group, headlines this year’s festivities. The band, with its large brass section, plays music dedicated to great horn bands of last 40 years. “They play music from all kids of eras,” said Vinny Ang, who is organizing this year’s event for the village. “They are a high-end band.”
The band will play from 7:30 p.m. until the fireworks begin.
Activities for children will include bounce castles, face painting, characters in costume and games. There will also be food and drinks for sale.
