RVCFD unveils four new trucks

On Sept. 25 the Rockville Centre Fire Department unveiled four brand new fire trucks, replacing their fleet. An unprecedented event, the department has never before replaced all four of their trucks at once.

Costing a total of $2.5 million, the new acquisition included three water-pumping trucks and one ladder truck. Each truck was custom manufactured to serve the needs of the community, and buying them all together saved the town up to $500,000., according to Mayor Francis X. Murray. “The village board understands the needs of the fire department,” said the mayor, who has been a firefighter himself for the past 44 years. “It means safety for our residents.”

He added that because the trucks were purchased from the same manufacturer, it would be easier and faster for firefighters from other companies to operate the trucks due to similarities in the layouts and equipment. In addition to the mayor and firefighters from all three fire companies, Deputy Mayor Nancy Howard and Trustee Edward J. Oppenheimer attended.
