In addition to being a key part of the Legendary Murphys, Sandy Murphy is also an award-winning songwriter, who has created works for Leann Rimes, a platinum-selling record for Brenda K. Starr, children’s tunes for Disney, and music for major network television shows like HBO’s “Veep,” “All My Children” and more. She’s currently writing a song for consideration by Kelly Clarkson, and also teaches song writing privately and in schools — most recently at Five Towns College. “If you asked Sandy to write a song, she could sit down and write a song tomorrow,” said her husband, Tom. “With her, it’s just amazing.” The songstress continues to take songwriting lessons herself in places like Nashville.

In 2013, Murphy released a CD, “Love Struck” — a compilation of 14 songs that demonstrates her vast range of talents in creating, singing and performing everything from hard rock to love ballads and pop. “I write songs for my wallet for sure, and then I write other songs from my heart,” she said. “They are very personal and people react.”

Murphy’s fans, she said, come from all over the globe, as her CD is available for sale on iTunes. “How is someone in Brazil finding me?” she asked in amazement.

What delights her most about her fans’ reactions to the album is that there isn’t one song that people seem to favor. Personal favorites of this author: “Time,” a song written right after the death of her father in 2013, and “Song for Emily,” an upbeat melody she wrote on a rainy day that was inspired by her Chihuahua.
