Santa dot net(lights) on Nottingham Rd.

Sometimes you see Christmas decorations — like those twinkling at Malvernite Keith Martini’s house — and you stop dead in your tracks.

“I’m a retail manager, not a decorator,” Martini told the Herald.

It was kind of hard to believe.

Shining outside his home on the corner of Nottingham Road and Ogsten Terrace were bigger-than-life size displays of Santa’s face, Frosty the Snowman holding a martini glass, a huge Christmas wreath, a Christmas tree and snowflakes to adorn the whole package.

What’s so creatively unusual about Martini’s display is that he constructs his own Christmas characters and symbols using a combination of net lights, lighted Christmas balls, rope lights, and other items.

“It’s become a little hobby,” said Martini. “This is fun during the winter — to get a little festive.”

Martini certainly knows how to do that as his house always seems to be decorated to the nines with impressive displays during other holidays like Halloween and Easter as well.

The Herald found Martini working outside his home last week, putting the finishing touches on his light display during a particularly cold, rainy December night. “I’m not finished; I’m having a little problem with that snowflake and still need to a do a few more things,” he said. “I had the martini glass moving so it goes up and down, but it’s not working now. I still got to get to that.”

Martini has constructed this display at Christmas time for the past several years, but it’s always a thrill to see and there always seems to be something new each year.
