Town Hall, and its political candidates, come to Malverne

Posted

If you have complaints, comments, suggestions or questions about anything related to the Town of Hempstead, councilmen Anthony Santino, Bruce Blakeman, and at least a dozen representatives from different town divisions, will be in Malverne, at the Howard T. Heber Middle School on Monday, May 18 at 7:30 p.m. to discuss them with you.

Oh, and by the way, three of the officials are running for office this year.

Santino, senior councilman in the Town of Hempstead — whom many consider the “heir apparent” to Town Supervisor Kate Murray’s position — announced last week that he will be running for her seat. Blakeman is running to keep his councilman position, and Clavin is running for his position as receiver of taxes.

Shortly before the announcement, three Town Hall meetings — in Malverne, East Rockaway and Oceanside/Island Park, were posted on the Town of Hempstead website, all of which are in Santino’s councilmatic district. Town Hall meetings give the public the opportunity to meet their town councilmen in person, and receive answers to direct questions from their town government representatives.

It also gives political candidates a convenient opportunity to get in front of the public and kick-start their political campaigns.

Matt Coleman, Santino’s public relations counsel, said these meetings are “government in a nutshell” and representatives from the following town departments would also would be present to answer questions:

  • Receiver of Taxes Office: Donald Clavin
  • Department of Highways: Commissioner Thomas Toscano or Inspector Steven Fried
