Third-graders from the Hebrew Academy of the Five Towns and Rockaway sang at the pre-Hanukkah celebration at Rock Hall Museum in Lawrence on Dec. 3.

Under the guidance of HAFTR music teacher Janet Goldman, the students sang several Hanukkah songs and Goldman introduced the Hebrew version of Judas Maccabeus, music written by composer, George Frideric Handel, a German composer who lived in England at the same time period that the museum was built in the 18th century.

After the performance, families toured the historic 1767 home. The children also received traditional chocolate holiday gelt. The eight-day Festival of lights began on Dec. 12.
