Hewlett High School students Sophia Giordano, Leo Khazan, Matthew Perkins, Nathan Roblin, Elizabet Isayeva and Jacob Sabu were named finalists and will compete in the International Sustainable World Energy, Engineering and Environment (ISWEEEP) Project Olympiad in Houston from May 3-8.

The research projects conducted by the students were performed in the high school under the mentorship of Dr. Terrence Bissoondial. Students worked on ways to improve crop production in face of abiotic stress.

ISWEEEP is the world’s largest international science fair focusing on topics such as renewable energy, sustainable development and medical breakthroughs. Projects are selected from about 70 countries. Finalists are chosen “by winning top prize at state or national sciences fairs in their respective locales,” according to what is written on the ISWEEEP website — www.isweeep.org.
