West Hempstead man charged with assault, resisting arrest

The Fifth Squad police reported the arrest of West Hempstead man Mario Mayorga for an assault that occurred on Aug. 4 at 2 a.m.

According to police, Mayorga, 42, of Nassau Boulevard, was involved in a disturbance with a 39-year-old woman. He proceeded to push and shove the female victim when her son, 21, intervened by grabbing the subject and pulling him away. The female victim did not suffer any injuries. Mayorga then grabbed a screwdriver and stabbed the male victim in the abdomen causing a laceration. He ran from the scene in an unknown direction.

Upon further investigation, police located Mayorga on Euclid Avenue and attempted to place him under arrest. He resisted arrest and placed one of the officer’s in a headlock. The officer suffered a facial abrasion and substantial pain to his neck. Mayorga was placed under arrest and transported to an area hospital with complaints of back pain. The injured officer was transported to an area hospital and released. Both victims refused medical attention at the scene.

Mayorga is charged with two counts of assault, criminal possession of a weapon, strangulation and resisting arrest. He will be arraigned when medically practical.
