The upstairs hallway of Chatterton elementary school was transformed into a Holocaust museum on March 18, thanks to the work of Debby Cain’s sixth-grade class. Posters, poems, dioramas, video slideshows, artwork and even family artifacts from World War II were on display for classmates, teachers and family members to see. more

Police charge three juveniles with Chatterton playground fire

Three juveniles were arrested and charged with criminal mischief in connection with a small fire that was set at the Chatterton Elementary School playground sometime between Wednesday evening, Aug. 20, and Thursday morning, Aug. 21, according to Nassau County Police. more

A day for reading at Chatterton Elementary School

Chatterton Elementary School in Merrick recently held its annual Community Reading Day, at which local leaders read to classes for a half-hour in the morning and answered questions about their work. Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano, at lectern, came to Chatterton Elementary School in Merrick on Monday to reassure Bellmore-Merrick parents and children that police were doing all in their power to catch a man or men who have been approaching elementary and middle school students on their way to and from school in recent weeks, frightening them. He was joined by police and school officials. At his right was Nassau County Legislator David Denenberg, of Merrick.

Surrounded by police and school officials, Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano vowed during a news conference at Chatterton Elementary School in Merrick on Monday to catch the man or men who have approached and frightened Bellmore-Merrick children in recent weeks.
