Mepham High School senior Steven Tsai, center, recently won New York’s Poetry Out Loud competition. Now he is headed to national finals of the contest in Washington, D.C. He was honored during last week’s Bellmore-Merrick Merrick Central High School District Board of Education meeting. He was joined by Central Superintendent Dr. Henry Kiernan and board President Nina Lanci.

Mepham senior crowned NY’s poetry king

Mepham High School senior Steven Tsai was recently crowned New York state champion in the Poetry Out Loud competition, a national contest that encourages high school students to learn about great poetry through memorization, performance and competition. more
