On Newsweek’s list: all three Central District high schools

Newsweek recently published its annual list of America’s best public high schools, and all three Bellmore-Merrick high schools –– Calhoun, Kennedy and Mepham –– made the top 500. According to the Census Bureau, there are some 24,000 public high schools across the United States. more

Newsweek and The Daily Beast recently ranked Kennedy High School, which takes in Bellmore and Merrick students, as the 268th best high school in the nation –– out of more than 26,000 schools. Above, Kennedy’s recent Class Night.

Bellmore-Merrick high schools rank high on Newsweek list

Newsweek magazine and The Daily Beast, in its recently published “America’s Best High Schools” list, included 18 high schools from New York’s 4th Congressional District, which covers much of southwest Nassau County. All three of Bellmore-Merrick’s high schools –– Calhoun, Kennedy and Mepham –– were on the list. more
