Calhoun's Daniel Chesley, left, who assisted on the game's only goal Monday, looked for a passing lane with Kennedy's Mike Watson defending.

“Matthew came up big when he was called upon,” Cantley said. “He’s one of the better keepers in the conference and that’s what he’s there for.”

Working behind a defense led by Delloiacono, fellow senior Patrick Mancini and sophomores Jack Thomann and Eric Rawson, Donnelly made five saves in posting a shutout for the third time in four games. He made nine stops in a 3-0 win over Carey that saw Podias score twice, and seven saves in a 2-0 victory at Herricks as Podias and junior Harry Davis notched goals.

Losing Davis for the season due to a broken arm suffered last week is a blow to the offense, Delloiacono said. “Harry’s a goal scorer and we’ll miss him, but he’s rooting us on and that’s all we can ask.”
