Chatterton Elementary School celebrates reading

Posted

Chatterton Elementary School in Merrick celebrated the written word last Friday with its annual Community Reading Celebration, at which elected and community leaders were invited in to read to classes. Among the attendees were New York State Sen. Charles Fuschillo Jr., whose three children attended Chatterton, Assemblyman David McDonough, Nassau County Legislator David Denenberg and Merrick Schools Superintendent Dr. Dominick Palma. Scott Brinton, senior editor of the Merrick and Bellmore Heralds, read “The Furry News: How to Make a Newspaper” to Laura Bonet’s third-grade class, at left, and answered students’ questions about the journalism profession. The Chatterton PTA sponsored the readers’ breakfast in the school library.
