Company: Stop & Shop revamp on track

A refurbished Stop & Shop store will open its doors in mid-December at the Merrick Mall, a spokeswoman for the grocery chain estimated this week.

Stop & Shop’s plans to renovate its central Merrick store stalled for years before construction began in May. The company is on pace to reopen the store next month, spokeswoman Arlene Putterman said on Monday.

“We’re moving right along,” Putterman said. “It’s going to be a huge improvement from what existed before.”

Putterman said the building’s footprint will expand by 15,000 square feet. She said workers are making daily progress on the store’s interior, exterior and parking lot, and they were set to finish installing new parking-lot lighting on Tuesday this week. The spokeswoman added that the renovated Stop & Shop will sell a broader “assortment of products in all areas.”
