Picture this: After a long, stressful day at work, you enter an exquisitely designed day spa with candles everywhere and soft, relaxing music. At your service are professionals who can massage, wax, exfoliate or beautify any part of you. NuZen Spa, which opened in September, offers all this and more.

Owner Nancy Mei has been in the beauty and spa industry for more than 20 years. She owned and operated a salon in Riverhead prior to working at day spas in Nassau County. All members of her staff at NuZen Spa are licensed in their specialties. You’ll find estheticians, massage therapists, nail technicians and hair stylists.

Décor is contemporary with an Asian touch and the essence of Zen. The two-level salon is lush with dark mahogany, flowers and bamboo. A luxurious lounge with couches makes waiting or socializing a pleasure.

On the first floor are nail services and waxing rooms. The second level is the spa, with beautiful eight rooms. Five are for facials and massages, and include two larger couples’ rooms, with two beds in each. There is a “Wet Room,” designed for full-body exfoliation, with multiple showerheads above. Another room has a full shower and sauna. The eighth is a steam room, also with a shower. A work in progress is the introduction of hair services as well. There are two stations and a washing sink.

Treatments and services are available in packages or ala carte. Offered are body treatments, facials, manicures, pedicures and waxing. A variety massage styles include Swedish, Deep Tissue, Thai, Hot Stone, Pre-Natal, and Reflexology foot massage.

Products are sold at retail price and can be shipped for free. Included are brands like Dr. Hauschka, Skinceuticals, Dermalogica, Jurlique, Darphin, Valmont, Aveda, and MoroccanOil.

Hours at NuZen Spa are 9:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday. Gift certificates are presented in a decorative bag with a complimentary product. A package of spa services makes a perfect holiday gift. Specials are always offered, and change monthly.
