Hempstead man allegedly burglarized Westbury home

Posted

A Hempstead man was arrested while burglarizing a home about a half a mile away from W.T. Clarke High School last Monday, police said.

According to the Nassau County Police Department, 3rd Precinct officers responded to a burglary-in-progress call at a home on Aster Place South in Westbury just after 1 p.m. on June 20. A description of the subject was transmitted over the radio just as the officers saw Damien Onwubuemeli, 21, at the corner of Old Country Road and Brooklyn Avenue — less than a quarter of a mile away from the house in question.

Police said that, when Onwubuemeli was arrested, he was in possession of a laptop and a small safe — which they said were taken from the house. He was charged with second-degree burglary at his arraignment on June 21 at First District Court in Hempstead, officials added.
