Hofstra to host first presidential debate

Although the already approved schedule of presidential debates did not include Hofstra University, home of one of the debates in 2008 and 2012, it will be the host of the Sept. 26 debate after all.

Hofstra, an alternate site for a 2016 debate, has been selected because of the withdrawal of Wright State University, several media outlets reported on Tuesday.

The Dayton Daily News first reported the story, saying that Wright State University President David Hopkins told them that the university decided to pull out of the debate due to rising security concerns and costs.

Three debates have been scheduled and Hofstra will now host the first one.
