Local group honors longtime member

The Merrick Bellmore Dayan Lilah Group of Hadassah, a Jewish women’s organization, recently named Amy Weinstein, a Merrick music teacher who has served in several Dayan Lilah Group leadership positions over 19 years, its “Great Communicator.” She will receive a commendation at a meeting of the countywide Nassau Region of Hadassah.

The full name of the Dayan Lilah Group’s parent organization is Hadassah, The Women’s Zionist Organization of America, Inc. Hadassah is a volunteer organization that promotes medical care and research, education, advocacy, personal growth and Jewish continuity, in addition to Zionism, according to the organization’s website. The Dayan Lilah Group comprises women in their 30s and 40s within Merrick and Bellmore’s Pnina Chapter of Hadassah.

Weinstein joined the Dayan Lilah Group in 1995 and has chaired some of its annual events, volunteered her assistance at several more, created the organization’s flyers and certificates, and led it as co-president from 2009-11. She also regularly plays piano accompaniment at Nassau Region of Hadassah events.

Apart from the Dayan Lilah Group, Weinstein teaches music at several area synagogues. She has also been active with the Chatterton School and Temple Beth Am PTAs and sings in the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District Alumni Choir. She and her husband, Howie, have two daughters, Lindsey and Jenna.
