Metropolitan Transportation Authority police have identified a man who was struck and killed by an eastbound Long Island Rail Road train on Friday at about 12:45 a.m., according to MTA spokesman Salvatore Arena.

According to officials, he was Douglas Sullivan, 45, of Long Beach.

Authorities said Sullivan was not authorized to be on the tracks. He was found roughly a quarter-mile east of the Merrick LIRR station, which is at Merrick Avenue and Sunrise Highway. The MTA could not say why Sullivan was on the tracks.

Officials are now awaiting results of a report by the Nassau County Medical Examiner.
