Man found in Merrick pool, pronounced dead at hospital

A 42-year-old man was rushed by ambulance on the night of July 4 from a Merrick home to South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside, where he was pronounced dead at 10:37 p.m.

Nassau County Police have yet to release the man’s name. Police officers and Merrick Fire Department emergency medical technicians responded to the call at 2421 Elinore Ave. Family members of the man, who was in a swimming pool, observed that something was wrong with him and pulled him from the pool, according to Eloise Abdullah, a Police Department public information officer. The man was taken to South Nassau by Merrick Fire Department ambulance.

Abdullah said police are awaiting the county medical examiner’s report to determine the cause of death.
