Merokean Marc Wortsman has been named Northeast Region Advisory Board president for Canine Companions for Independence, the oldest and largest nonprofit assistance dog organization in the country helping people with physical disabilities.

“I’m truly grateful to have been asked to continue my service to Canine Companions as president of our regional board,” said Wortsman. “We all share a common goal here: to place more of our remarkable dogs with those in need –– one act of generosity at a time.”

Wortsman recently retired after 30 years as executive vice president and general manager at Marden-Kane Integrated Promotion Marketing Solutions. Wortsman was responsible for many accomplishments, notably helping to guide the agency into the online promotion field when the Internet was first commercialized in the mid-1990s. For the last seven years, Wortsman has used his marketing background to organize events to raise awareness and funds for Canine Companions.

“It’s a humbling experience to work alongside Canine Companion’s talented, passionate staff, fellow board members, dedicated volunteers, incredible Canine Companions graduates, and our beautiful, trusted and highly skilled dogs. I have witnessed miracles,” said Wortsman.

Canine Companions for Independence provides highly trained assistance dogs to children and adults with disabilities. Established in 1975, Canine Companions has six training centers, in California, Florida, Ohio, New York and Texas.
