Milan and the giant sunflower

Posted

As a class project, Anne Garton, a teacher at St. John’s Lutheran Church Early Childhood Center in Merrick, had her students plant sunflowers last spring. Milan Menna’s sunflower started out much like everyone else’s –– average size in a pot.

Then Milan, 4, planted the flower in the ground in her yard, and she watched as an amazing transformation took place. The sunflower grew to an inordinate height, becoming a giant sunflower.

“We had a lot of fun watching it grow this summer,” said Milan’s mother, Natanyah. “All our friends and family could not believe how tall it got. Milan was very excited by all the attention her beautiful sunflower received.

“Now that summer is over,” she continued, “we will soon be saying goodbye to our big sunflower and hello to a new school year.”
