N. Merrick F.D. earns ‘EMS Agency of the Year’

The North Merrick Fire Department topped 72 other local agencies this year to be selected as the Nassau County Regional Emergency Medical Services Council's “EMS Agency of the Year.” The department will take home the award at an October reception.

Nassau REMAC, which coordinates emergency medical services countywide, will honor the North Merrick Fire Department for its commitment to top-quality care and community engagement, according to a department press release.

The department’s volunteer membership includes paramedics, the most highly qualified providers of pre-hospital care. More than 40 percent of the department’s members are state certified EMTs, and the department requires that its chiefs be EMTs in addition to firefighters. The department has partnered for years with Forever 9: The Robbie Levine Foundation, a Merrick nonprofit organization that donates AEDs to youth ball fields and offers and funds CPR/AED training, to educate community members about how to handle cardiac emergencies.

“The chiefs, officers and members of the NMFD are very proud being honored as Nassau County’s EMS Agency of the Year and wish to thank all residents for their continual support,” stated a North Merrick Fire Department press release. “A special thanks to all our membership for their dedication.”
