Police report string of car burglaries in south Merrick

A currently unidentified person or persons burglarized four cars in relatively close proximity to one another in south Merrick last Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

Two cars in the parking lot of the Xtreme Gym on Merrick Road and Hewlett Avenue both had a window smashed and a pocketbook stolen from them on the night of Feb. 27. A car on Byron Road had a window smashed and an iPad stolen from it on the night of Feb. 27 or the early morning of Feb. 28, and a car on Whaleneck Drive had a window smashed and a laptop stolen from it in the early morning hours of Feb. 28.

Amanda Lamberti, an intelligence analyst with the Nassau County Police Department’s 7th Precinct, said that police do not have proof these crimes were connected, but the precinct has stepped up patrols in the area.
